Tandom Canoes
A tandem canoe is a watercraft specifically designed to be paddled by two people. Ranging from 15 to 18 feet in length, it features a bow (front) seat and a stern (back) seat. These boats offer ample weight capacity to support two paddlers along with gear or camping supplies.
Key Characteristics.
- Paddling Roles: The bow paddler sets the forward pace and power, while the stern paddler dictates the course by steering the boat with rudder or J-strokes.
- Hull Design: Tandem canoes feature "full" ends, meaning the bow and stern sections are voluminous enough to prevent the boat from dipping too low in the water while carrying a person at either end.
- Versatility: Depending on the model, they can be utilized for flatwater touring, whitewater expeditions, or multi-day backcountry tripping.
